MW4 x Warzone: what changes in Season 1

Launch day does not change Warzone. Season 1 does — new maps, MW4 weapons, shared progression and the end of last-gen support. Here is the timeline and what to do before it lands.

The short answer

Modern Warfare 4's Warzone integration begins with Season 1. Multiple publication roadmaps date Season 1 to November 6, 2026, but Activision has not published a single global timestamp on every regional page. October 23 is the premium launch: campaign, multiplayer and DMZ.

What Season 1 adds

Hajin is the DMZ map, rebuilt for Battle Royale. It is the same exclusion zone from the campaign and DMZ, with the reactor, prison, military base and city ruins forming the POI set. If you have played DMZ, you already know the geography; the BR version changes pacing, loot density and player count.

Zodiac is a new Resurgence map from Beenox. It appeared in the second beta weekend and includes a train as a tactical element. It is not one of the 12 core 6v6 maps and it is not a DMZ map; it is a Warzone Resurgence map.

There is no official third map announcement. Any page claiming a new big Battle Royale map beyond Hajin is guessing.

Carry forward

Activision's messaging is that existing content carries forward into the integrated Warzone. MWII through Black Ops 7 weapons, operators and skins remain usable in the new era, with the usual exceptions for platform-specific or licensed content.

MW4 content is the new layer. Your MW4 weapon levels, camos and operators feed the Warzone progression track from Season 1. The camo journey spans Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone, with three Mastery Camos per mode and nine total.

If you are returning after a break, log in before Season 1, link your Activision account, and check which platform holds your COD Points. Currency is platform-locked; progression is not.

The last-gen shutdown

Warzone on PS4 and last-gen Xbox becomes unplayable when Season 1 starts. New downloads stopped on June 4, 2026, and the in-game store left last-gen on June 25. If your only console is a PS4 or Xbox One, you lose Warzone at integration and you cannot play MW4 at all, because MW4 is current-gen only.

Your progress on a linked Activision account carries to current-gen and PC. COD Points bought on last-gen stay inside that console family, so spend or transfer what you can before the shutdown.

How to prepare

1. Install the Warzone pack now if you have disk space. It is roughly 42 GB on PS5 and separate from MW4. 2. Level the M4, ISO Nightshade and Kastov 762 in MW4 multiplayer. Those are the most likely meta picks in the integrated sandbox. 3. Unlock the campaign operators you want to use in Warzone. Eight are free through missions. 4. Link your account and enable 2FA. Cross-progression and security both depend on it. 5. Do not delete your last-gen install until you have moved progress, if you are still on PS4 or Xbox One. 6. Check the official status page on Season 1 day; integration launches are the largest server events of the year.

What is still unknown

  • The exact Season 1 unlock time by region.
  • Ranked Play's MW4 start date and ruleset.
  • The full Battle Pass and BlackCell content list.
  • Whether a second Battle Royale map arrives later in Season 1.
  • Champion's Quest step list for the MW4 nuke.

We will update this page when Activision publishes the Season 1 roadmap. Until then, treat any specific date beyond November 6 as unconfirmed.

Should you play Warzone before Season 1?

Yes, if only to keep your mechanics sharp. But do not grind MW4 weapon levels expecting them to matter in Warzone on October 23; the integration is a Season 1 event, not a launch event. The DMZ guide is the better use of launch week if you want extraction practice on Hajin before the BR version arrives.
