Movement and gunplay
1. Do the movement course first. Mantle Slide, Mantle Momentum and Supine Slide are not cosmetic. The course rates your runs from C- to S and teaches routes that show up in real matches. Twenty minutes there beats twenty matches of trial and error.
2. Hipfire is honest now. Ballistic Authority removed bloom. Shots go where the barrel points, so a laser attachment and a stable stance are worth more than a hipfire accuracy perk. Do not spam-fire from the hip at range; the recoil is still real.
3. Chain the mantle into a slide. The fastest entry into a contested room is often a mantle over a car or planter directly into a slide. You keep momentum and arrive with your aim already up.
4. Use the supine slide defensively. Double-tap crouch during a sprint to end up on your back, feet forward, still able to shoot. It is a survival tool in tight corridors, not just a movement trick.
5. Learn one pipe route per map. Pipe Climb and Fast Pipe Slide create vertical entries that most players do not watch. One route on Lotus or Cachette is enough to win a round.
Progression and loadouts
6. Unlock the M4 at Level 14. It is the most consistent AR in the beta and it stays useful after the first balance patch. Do not spend all your time on a single weapon before then.
7. Attachments unlock once. A muzzle you unlock on the M4 is available on every compatible gun. Level a few weapons in parallel to build a shared attachment pool.
8. Use Gunny and the firing range. Gunny recommends Short Range, Long Range and Balanced builds. The firing range lets you test recoil before you take a gun into a match.
9. Play the campaign for free operators. Eight operators unlock through missions. If you want a specific skin without COD Points, check the operator list before buying anything.
10. Smartstreaks reward objectives. Kills are still the main driver, but playing the objective now contributes. A UAV or artillery streak is closer than a pure kill chase suggests.
Multiplayer habits
11. Build for the map, not the tier list. The ISO Nightshade is the best SMG, but it is the wrong gun on Coal's long lanes. Keep one AR and one SMG class ready.
12. Buy armour early in Collateral. The mode is one-life Search & Destroy with cash. Armour and a real gun by round three win more rounds than saving for a Tier 1 rifle you lose on entry.
13. Check the Kill Block layout. It reconfigures between rounds with 500+ combinations and weather. Do not assume the lane you held last round still exists.
DMZ habits
14. Run the free loadout until your stash is healthy. DMZ punishes greed. A cheap gun and a successful extraction are worth more than a Vault blueprint and a wipe.
15. Extract early. The threat system escalates the longer you stay. One contract and an early chopper beats three contracts and a Deathstalker.
Bonus: launch-week logistics
- Preload the mode packs you actually play; campaign and multiplayer are separate on console.
- Enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot before launch, not after.
- Check the server status page before reinstalling anything.
- Do not buy gray-market keys. The buying guide explains why.
- If you plan to buy BlackCell anyway, the Vault Edition is the better value at $30 more. If not, Standard is correct.
FAQ
What should I do first in MW4?
Play the movement course, then the campaign's first mission, then unlock the M4 at Level 14. The movement course and campaign rewards give you mechanics and operators before you grind multiplayer.
What is the fastest way to level weapons?
Play objective modes with Double XP tokens from campaign missions, and level several weapons in parallel because attachments unlock account-wide.
How do I survive DMZ as a solo?
Use the free loadout, deploy to low-threat edges, bring a suppressor and gas mask, take one contract, and extract early. The Stealth Meter gives you a warning before AI spots you.
