The five free operators
Min-Hee, CTSFO, Mil-Sim KSK Arctic, UCTF and Army SF Airborne are available from the start. They cover the South Korean Quick Reaction Force aesthetic: clean tactical gear, no flashy skins, and local-language voice lines in some cases. If you do not care about cosmetics, you never need another operator.

DMZ levels come from extracting, completing missions and looting, so these are slower than campaign unlocks but faster than the multiplayer challenge operators if you play DMZ regularly.

The hipfire and longshot challenges are the easiest to farm in Team Deathmatch. The 3-kill streak challenge is easier in objective modes where enemies group up.
Vault Edition operators
Ghost, Blix, Valeria, Price, SAS, South Korean SF, COM FST and KSK Amphibious are Vault Edition entitlements. They are cosmetic only; the base operators are not locked behind the paywall. The Special Forces pack includes local-language voice packs for the French, German, South Korean and British operators, which is the most distinctive content in the Vault.
Hunter Killer and Kyle
Hunter Killer comes with any digital preorder or pre-purchase (Standard or Vault) and is usable in Black Ops 7 and Warzone immediately. Kyle is tied to the Call of Duty Endowment Valor Pack, a charity pack; availability and price vary by region.
Ju Kwon
Listed as [CLASSIFIED] in Activision's launch roster. It is likely a challenge or seasonal unlock; there is no official unlock path at launch. Do not buy anything expecting to get it.
How to unlock operators fast
1. Play the campaign first — eight operators for eight missions, including some of the best-looking skins. 2. Reach DMZ Level 4 — Reece is a short detour if you are already playing DMZ. 3. Farm hipfire and longshots in TDM — Jae and Valen are the two easiest challenge unlocks. 4. Check the Vault only if you want the voice packs — the operators are cosmetic, and the $30 upgrade also includes BlackCell and blueprints.
Operators are assigned per loadout in MW4, so you can match a skin to a mode without changing your whole class.
