What you are actually buying
This is a full premium release, not a Warzone update. The campaign is a direct continuation: Price is a wanted man after killing General Shepherd, Task Force 141 has been disbanded, and Ghost and Gaz are sent to bring him in. The multiplayer ships with 12 new 6v6 maps, 33 weapons, 33 operators and 17 killstreaks. DMZ returns as a full third mode set in the Hajin exclusion zone, with its own progression track, Forward Operating Base and persistent stash.
Two things are deliberately not in the box on day one. Warzone's Modern Warfare 4 integration begins with Season 1, which the content calendar points to November 6, 2026. And Zombies is not a mode in MW4 — the three pillars are Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ.
Three modes, three different jobs
Campaign is the reason to buy at full price if you care about the story. It is longer than recent Call of Duty campaigns, moves between Korea, New York, Paris, Mumbai and Russia, and kills off several characters the series has spent seven years building. Start here if you want to avoid spoilers; the internet will not wait for you.
Multiplayer is the long-term install. The headline change is Ballistic Authority: hipfire bloom is gone, so bullets leave the barrel where it is pointing. Movement is boots-on-the-ground with chained mantles, supine slides and pipe climbs rather than Black Ops omnimovement. The early meta is already visible — the M4 and Kastov 762 cover mid-range, the ISO Nightshade owns close quarters.
DMZ is the mode that will decide whether you keep the game installed. Hajin is a large, persistent exclusion zone with AI squads, rival players, escalating threat levels and a stash that survives between runs. It is deeper than the 2022 beta and considerably less forgiving.

Physical Standard Edition buyers on console do not get early access. Neither does anyone playing through a friend's library or a subscription.
