Is Modern Warfare 4 out? The full game launches October 23, 2026. Campaign early access opened October 16 and DMZ early access opened October 20 for digital preorders.
What time does it unlock? North America: 12 AM ET on October 23, which is 9 PM PT on October 22. Most other regions: midnight local time.
What platforms? PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2. No PS4 or Xbox One.
Is it on Game Pass? Not at launch. Activision says MW4 will join Game Pass around Holiday 2027.
Is there a Switch 2 version? Yes, a native build by Infinity Ward and Digital Legends, with cross-play, cross-progression, Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and gyro aiming. It is about 77 GB.
Price and editions
How much does it cost? $69.99 Standard, $99.99 Vault at US SRP. Regional pricing varies.
What is in the Vault Edition? The base game, Hostile Alliance and Special Forces operator packs, five Signature Weapon blueprints, one season of BlackCell, a DMZ deployment bonus and the Hunter Killer preorder skin. The upgrade costs $30.
Is the Vault worth it? If you were going to buy BlackCell anyway, yes — the $30 upgrade roughly matches one BlackCell season and adds the operator packs and blueprints. If you skip Battle Passes, Standard is the better buy.
Can I upgrade later? Yes, for $30.
Campaign
How long is the campaign? About eight hours on Normal across 16 missions. Completionists should budget 14–16 hours.
Does MW4 have Zombies? No. The modes are Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ.
Does the campaign spoil DMZ? They are connected. The campaign's post-credits scene sets up DMZ, and the Hajin zone is the campaign's aftermath.
Multiplayer and DMZ
How many multiplayer maps? 12 core 6v6 maps, 3 Ground War maps, 4 Gunfight arenas and the dynamic Kill Block map.
How many weapons and operators? 33 weapons and 33 operators at launch.
Does MW4 have DMZ? Yes, as a full mode. It opened early on October 20 for digital preorders and launches for everyone on October 23.
Is DMZ PvP? Yes. Hajin is a live server with rival operators, rogue players and extraction camping.
Is there cross-play and cross-progression? Yes, across PS5, Xbox, PC and Switch 2 through a linked Activision account. Platform-specific currency does not transfer.
Warzone and the future
When does Warzone get MW4 content? Season 1, expected November 6, 2026, with the Hajin battle royale map, Zodiac Resurgence, MW4 weapons and shared progression.
Can I play Warzone without buying MW4? Yes. Warzone remains free-to-play. MW4 is a separate purchase.
Will my old skins carry forward? Activision's carry-forward messaging says MWII through Black Ops 7 content remains usable, with platform and licensing exceptions.
What happens to last-gen Warzone? It becomes unplayable when Season 1 starts. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version of MW4.
